It's been over two months since I started this blog and since then there have been three visits to the doctor - considering I had to wait to find one that was taking new patients, I am very happy with the thoroughness of this doctor and her "bedside" manner. She is supportive, knowledgeable and easy to deal with. That is going to be a big plus in this "challenge" as she will guide me through whatever road I take and can offer the tools I need to make the trip successful.
To start with, it will take more focus and commitment from me. My visit yesterday was much better than the last two in that, 1) my blood pressure was way down and very, very normal and 2) I had lost 5 lbs. She was impressed and pleased, especially with the blood pressure, because was a worry. No worry there. Also, my blood sugar showed me normal (diabetes is a worry in our family, too) and no indication of liver, kidney or heart problems. So far, so good.
My cholesterol is up, however moderate it is for my category, there is still some concern with it double what it should be. When did they start cholesterol testing? You would think it would have been a big problem all along considering how much saturated fat there is in everyone's diet. I have made efforts to cut out things that contribute to this and I told her of my efforts since March 29th (the day I started this blog)... however, with that being about six weeks before my blood tests, it should have registered lower... if it was going to go lower. So, now my challenge is to make sure I cut everything I can and increase my exercise - it's all in the lifestyle change. I go back for blood tests about the end of July. She has given me 6 weeks to try on my own, and if not, I will have to take something for it to help it along. It won't be forever if I can lose enough weight to make a difference, so that is a good thing. Natural is better.
I will still be taking more tests over the course of the next two weeks (mammogram, heart ultrasound, and bone density) so will know the complete results by end of June. I am looking forward to being able to do more and not be so out of breath or tired or sore. Today, I helped Mom with yard work and needed a nap this afternoon to rest. Did a bit more walking yesterday, too, than I usually have been doing. All in all, it's been a great week.
On that note I end for now, tired but positive and looking to a healthier future with a change in my lifestyle.
